SPRINGFIELD PLATTEVIEW TOURNEY CHAMPIONS

The 12 and under girls from Springfield won the B division Todd Valley tournament that was held in Blair on June 8 – June 10. Springfield went a perfect 4-0 by beating Bennington, Plattsmouth, and Papillion. And then Springfield met Bennington again in the Championship game. The final game went a complete 7 innings with Springfield scoring 2 runs in the top of the 7th to take a 5-3 lead and held off Bennington in the bottom of the inning to secure the 5-3 win and the title. The quality of all aspects of the game was evident in the championship – Pitching, defense with both teams competing on a high level. “There were too many players involved in the championship run to name an overall MVP”, said coach Kevin Carlson of Springfield. “This was truly a team effort.”

First United Methodist Youth Group Leaves for Mission Trip

Members of the first United Methodist Church Youth Group left for this year’s Youth Mission Trip at 7:00am Saturday July 7th. They headed up to Cass Lake, MN for a week of service.

Youth Group Director, Ron Smith is asking for the Springfield community’s support.

From Ron:

I would like to ask you all for the gift of prayer this week.

Please pray for safe travel for all of us on our way there and back.

Please pray for strength to love each other and the people we encounter this week. Openly share the love of Christ as the Spirit leads.

Please pray for the community of the Leach Lake Reservation we are serving this week as well as our own community we are coming back to.

Please pray for the strength to continue to love and serve God and others with all our heart, soul, mind and strength.

There is no way a simple thank you would ever be sufficient for all the church and community has done for us. Thank You for sending us!!

Here is a list of those attending our Mission Trip this year.

I would appreciate it if you would take the time to pray for each person individually -- that each person will be able to more fully understand God’s purpose and plan for their life.

Singin' in the Rain

While the weather here in Nebraska is hot and dry, things are cool and rainy down at the Lofte Community Theatre in Manley.  A new group of volunteer actors, actresses and orchestra members are hard at work on the familiar old tale, "Singin' in the Rain."
The MGM Classic film which starred Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds has been converted into a stage play.  It's the funny tale of a silent film production company in 1920s Hollywood that is making the difficult transition to sound.  Heartthrob Don Lockwood (played by Adam Kovar of Lincoln) and Lina Lamont (newcomer Petra Whittier also of Lincoln) are an on-screen romantic sensation.  Don's smooth voice transitions nicely into talkies, but Lina's voice . . . well, even after working with a professional vocal coach, she still has a long way to go.
The big surprise in this show?  The Lofte is going to make it rain on stage.  That's right, folks.  We invite you to come enjoy a little bit of rain.  Forget the heat while you sit in a nice air conditioned theater, drink a soda pop and enjoy the sights and sounds of 1920s Hollywood.
The production is directed by Kevin Colbert.  The musical director and orchestra conductor is Betty Colbert.  "Singin' in the Rain," opens Friday, July 20 and runs July 20-22, 26-29 and August 2-5.  Curtain times are 7:30pm Thursday through Saturday.  All Sunday performances are 2pm matinees.  Tickets for adults are $18, and children are only $10.   Call 402.234.2553 to reserve your seats today.

"Almost, Maine" Auditions at Lofte

The Lofte Community Theatre in Manley announces that it will be holding open auditions on Sunday, July 22 and Monday, July 23 at 7pm.  The theater is looking for 10 men and 9 women ages 22-50 for their upcoming production of, "Almost, Maine."  No experience is necessary.  The Lofte welcomes all levels of theatrical skill.

"Almost," is a combination of stories that take town in a remote, mythical town in Maine.  It's a cold, clear moonless night and as the northern lights hover above, the town's residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and sometimes hilarious ways.

Actors will audition using cold readings from the script.  The production's director will be Kevin Colbert.  Those auditioning should bring a list of possible schedule conflicts.  Rehearsals will begin around the first of August.  Production dates are September 1, 2, 7-9 and 13-16.

Those with questions about the production can call the theater at 402.234.2553 or visit the Lofte's website, www.Lofte.com.
