WHAT’S NEW IN SPRINGFIELD, NE
July 30, 2008
It’s Sarpy County Fair week in Springfield. Head on down to the fair grounds July 30- August 3 for all the events, exhibits, games, rides, food, and entertainment. One great thing about the Sarpy County Fair is the free admission. Don’t we love that?!!! Personally, I can’t miss all the exhibits and the parade. And guess what? I get to eat “cotton candy”. The real kind, not that stuff in a bag! A calendar of all the happenings is on their website at: www.sarpyfair.com

Visit award-winning Seasons of the Soul author Janet Syas Nitsick of Springfield and Plattsmouth photo-greeting card extraordinaire Val Robert of Creations by Valerie at their commercial air-conditioned booth during the Sarpy County Fair in Springfield from July 30 through Aug. 3. Janet's book won Best of Year from www.Christianstoryteller.com. The family and book were featured on local television, and her radio interview aired last year on WVNE 760 am, major markets in Springfield and Worcester, Mass. Step into each season of uplifting faith stories and a spattering of personal accounts of the author's two different autistic sons. Midwest Book Reviewer said: "This beautiful book is suitable for all readers and would be the ideal gift for family or friends." Val's vibrant photos, including scenes of Plattsmouth, the area and across the country, will warm the heart of each card receiver. Her nature photographs can be enlarged and framed, making great wall hangings. See them at the fair: 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday; 4 to 10 p.m., Thursday and Friday; noon to 10 p.m., Saturday; and noon to 4 p.m., Sunday.
Sonshine Preschool will not be continuing to serve the children of Springfield this fall due to Teacher Heather Shepard and her family moving to Marengo, Illinois. Heather and Luann Kulm have loved working with the children of Springfield the past 2 years teaching them about their world and it's creator. There will be a sale on August 7th at the Methodist church to sell the books, puzzles, ride on toys, supplies and teacher materials. Heather and Luann wish to thank the church for their tremendous support in the preschool venture the past two years as well as the many parents who supported the preschool with their time and energy. It is very difficult to say goodbye to so many wonderful children and parents!
The Springfield Memorial Library ended a successful Summer Reading Program season last week with two events. Monday programming concluded with folk musician, Chris Sayre, performing “A Musical Journey Across America” for an audience of children and adults on July 21st. The Thursday Reading Tent and Craft Day ended on July 24th with a fun paper-making activity and watermelon feed. The library would like to thank everyone who supported this summer’s “Catch the Reading Bug” programs. A special thanks to local businesses and Friends of the Library for their donations, and to the parents and teen volunteers who assisted us. What a great summer!
