Happy Birthday to Alexandrea Swanson!

From: Linda Swanson (Alex’s mom)
My daughter, Alexandrea Swanson, is a junior at Platteview High School and a dedicated volunteer at the Open Door Mission.  Additionally, Alex is a National Honor Society student and on the Girls’ Varsity Golf team.  On Saturday, September 6, 2008, Alex celebrated her 16th birthday at the Renaissance Mansion in Omaha, NE and instead of her friends bringing a present for her she had them bring a bag of diapers to be donated to the Open Door Mission.  Approximately 75 students from Platteview High School were in attendance and almost 100 bags of diapers were collected and will be donated later this week to the Open Door Mission.  What a great way to celebrate, Alexandrea!

Open Door Mission was very thankful for such an event:

" Hi Linda,

Thank you so much for thinking of Open Door Mission and the need for diapers for young moms. What a great idea, we love it, and will do whatever we can to make this a success.

Linda, We can certainly provide a representative of the Mission at Alex’s party if that would work for you. In addition, this type of initiative makes a great story that we’d love to use perhaps in a future newsletter.

Also, we’d like to add the event to our website blog, with your permission.

Do you have a picture of your daughter Alex that we could include with the verbiage for this fun upcoming event?

Thank you for rearing such a community-conscious young lady!
