Springfield Cemetery Fundraiser
Springfield Cemetery is asking for donations to pave the cemetery streets. Every other year it costs $9000 to resurface the asphalt. To raise $100,000 to install pavement a Go Fund Me page is set up. Please help: https://www.gofundme.com/springfield-cemetary-association

“IT HAPPENED IN SPRINGFIELD HISTORY”
The Springfield Community Building on the northwest corner of 1st & Main Street was constructed between 1938 and 1940 as a WPA project. In the spring of 1938, residents recognized the potential for utilizing WPA funds for the construction of a community building. The city purchased the vacant lot and proposed a bond issue which was voted on by city residents. The bond issue passed by the majority. Construction began in the fall of 1938. The Community Building was constructed out of sandstone from a nearby quarry. At the time of completion in 1940 Springfield's population was only 370. The large building was used for numerous activities such as basketball games, graduation ceremonies, dances, county fair exhibits, meetings, and local elections.
