The Sarpy County Fair Board recognized its members for their years of service in March 1987. The Board acknowledged these members: (Left to right) Paul Smith, Springfield 10years; Lyle Gottsch, Springfield 25 years; Bill Hahn Springfield 25 years; and Bob Mann, Bellevue 20 years.

Gardening

SPRINGFIELD AREA MASTER GARDENERS

I decided this time before we continued on garden notes that we should talk about what the gardens are about at the fairgrounds. There are several available for your enjoyment and also an opportunity to see plants that grow in this area.

1. Main garden consists of perennials and All American Selection plants (I will talk about them next week)

2. Butterfly garden where you can find several bee, butterfly, and insect attracting plants.

3. Rain barrel garden provides drought plants which can tolerate minimal water (which we all need right now)

4. Along the back side of the school building you can find Nebraska prairie plants.

5. The side of the arena is more AAS plants that are annuals and lantana.

6. By the legion bingo awning is the memorial garden which has several plants that you would see from your grandma's yard like peonies, sunflowers, etc.

7. Back to the front garden would be our entrance garden with a few roses and such.

Next week we will learn about All American Selections. I am so eager to have you enjoy our gardens this year.
