IT HAPPENED IN SPRINGFIELD HISTORY

 History Westmont

On Sunday April 29, 1979, South Sarpy School District #46 held a dedication service for the new Westmont Elementary School. The principal speaker for the ceremony was Dr. Anne Campbell, Nebraska Commissioner of Education. The dedication commenced with a welcoming speech given by school district superintendent, Dr. Oscar Mussman. Springfield American Legion Auxiliary members, Hazel Bochnicek and Harriet Green presented the flags with Cub Scout Troop Westmont Pack #389 leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Reverend Mark Wendland from Springfield United Methodist Church gave the Invocation. Afterwards, the sixth-grade choir sang America, Our Heritage. The new school’s principal was John Christiansen. An open house was held from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. for the community to tour the new building.

SPRINGFIELD AREA MASTER GARDENERS NEWS

 Ground temperature: 50 degrees

I know the weather outside says above 50 degrees but it's not the air temp we are worried about it's the ground. You can take the temp itself by using a cooking thermometer, but make sure and don't use it for cooking. Also make sure and leave it in the ground for at least 10 minutes. If you want, you can also purchase them at any garden store or online service.

The other thing to start buying is the appropriate soils. If you are interested in succulents, there is a cactus soils. If you want something that retains moisture there is one for that.
Also make sure that if you are using a "soil amendments", you make sure and mix it  according to directions with mostly your soil and not just the amendment or you can harm your plants.
Next time let's hope for rain and start getting those precious plants in the garden.
