SPRINGFIELD AREA MASTER GARDENERS NEWS
Wow! Is it August already?!?
Well, I hope you are doing well and are recovering from the fair. Another week of 100 degree temperatures and your garden is starting to show signs of dwindling down.
Make sure and still water well since Mother Nature is not. Start to think about if you want to overseed the lawn, keep track of the weeds you are seeing so you can treat for next year, and make sure and deadhead. DEADHEAD, DEADHEAD, DEADHEAD! Some weeds can produce 100s of seeds. Also dust off those canning books.
You can also start some fall plantings: radishes, lettuce, beets, kale, onions, kohlrabi, etc. You have to count back from the first freeze date which is October 14th.
Okay, lots of info for you to keep in mind. Also don't forget the plant exchange shelf at the fair.
