Doesn’t this weekend seem like the last hurrah for the summer season?   The upcoming Labor Day weekend typically signifies the winding down of most summer activities. With the first Nebraska football game of the year and other fall sports beginning, it feels like autumn is here already. The weather predictions are calling for a fantastic warm and sunny weekend. Most of us are fortunate to have a long three-day weekend to enjoy the last remaining bit of summer. So, have a glorious time!

We pay tribute to former Springfield resident, Lucille Krulis Prusha, who  recently passed away:  Lucille was born on July 4, 1916 in Omaha.  She later moved with her folks to Wyoming, Gretna, and Springfield farms.  While attending Gretna School she and her 2 older sisters delivered glass jars of milk from her folk's farm to Gretna residents.  In 1933 they moved to the Sarpy Co. poor farm in Springfield (where she and her sisters helped her folks care for poor homeless people).  In 1934 she graduated from Springfield High School.  In 1936 she was united in marriage with Anton Prusha Jr.  They resided in Omaha their entire 70 years of marriage.  She and her husband started Prusha Nursery which was successful.  Besides selling many trees, shrubs, and garden plants, they donated to Lauritzen Gardens, the War Memorial on Dodge Street, and Holy Ghost Church.  Each year they donated many things to the Holy Ghost Festival.  She never forgot Springfield and when they were building the new library she donated plants for the plant sale.  She died peacefully in her sleep on August 20 at the Life Care Center in Elkhorn.  She was preceded in death by her husband in 2006 and sisters, Tillie Zielinski and Sylvia Harder. She is survived by her son James and his wife Joan and a daughter, Barbara Jean Monzingo, 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law JoAnn and Fred Ostransky.
