Construction of the old Springfield Elementary School, 765 Main Street, is underway. The building will soon be the home of Springfield Platteview Community Schools' Administration offices. Demolition started on the original east side of the building. The west side has been gutted and is being prepared for renovations. Next up is an updated HVAC system, a new roof, and other interior finishings. The project is broken down into two phases of completion. Phase one will allow for several district offices to open starting around August 2023. Phase two, which will complete the project, is anticipated to be finished in early September 2023. Stay tuned for more!
Thank you to Springfield Platteview School District Administration for these updates.

IT HAPPENED IN SPRINGFIELD HISTORY
Pictured: Judy Hibberd, Dr. Mike Liebentritt, Clarence Zwiebel, president of the Springfield Improvement Association, Mayor Allen Kreifels in the dental chair.
The first dental office was opened by Dr. Michael E. Liebentritt on January 14, 1974. In the past, dental care was provided by Dr. V.F. Stortch who came from Millard to Springfield several days a week. Although Dr. Liebentritt still maintained an office in downtown Omaha, he planned to expand his Springfield practice as patient loads increased. The office was located on the north side of Main Street and was purchased from the Springfield Improvement Association. The receptionist for Dr. Lienbentritt was Judy Hibberd, a resident of Westmont. In May 1979, Dr. Liebentritt announced plans to open his office full-time at 166 Main Street. The dental practice moved to 191 Main Street after Dr. Liebentritt purchased the corner building at 2nd and Main Street in 1982.
