The play, A Womanless Wedding, held in 1951.
Springfield’s Community Building located on the northwest corner of 1st & Main Street was build in 1939. Throughout the years countless events have been held at the Community Building. Area residents have utilized the facility for meetings, dances, plays, bingo, exhibits, music shows and jamborees, the annual Springfield Fire Department Christmas party, Alumni Banquet, sports, weddings and a host of other events. Although the Community Building is maintained by the city of Springfield, various groups of volunteers have assisted with the upkeep of the building in past years by cleaning, painting, installing a sound system, new lighting, and other needed repairs. From 2001 to 2003 the inside was renovated by a group of volunteers, high school students, and local businesses. Platteview High School’s industrial Arts students under the direction of teacher, Dan Craney, led the major renovation. The Community Building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
