IT HAPPENED IN SPRINGFIELD HISTORY

History Halloween1971

In 1971, the traditional Halloween procession from Springfield Elementary School along Main Street to the downtown area was ruined by rain. The kids were bussed to the Springfield Community Building, where they marched in front of family and friends dressed in a variety of costumes, including astronauts, goblins, witches, gypsies, and pirates. Every grade posed for pictures after the parade. Employees of Springfield State Bank, including Mrs. Elden Nielsen, Mrs. Richard Kiger, and Miss Ann Cornwall, distributed Halloween sweets. Allen Kreifels, a Springfield Boosters official, also offered the students goodies. Clarence Zweibel, a Springfield booster, distributed candy to the kindergarten class procession earlier in the morning. Everyone congratulated the students on their excellent behavior.
