Welcome Back, Springfield Community!

On Saturday, June 22nd, the Springfield Farmers Market was in full swing, featuring a fantastic array of vendors from our local community. One of my personal favorites, Chic Boutique, was there, showcasing their unique items.

Fresh eggs were available for just $2, and I couldn’t resist picking up some juicy tomatoes and crisp green peppers. There was also delicious, locally-sourced honey that was a sweet treat for everyone!

For those who missed it, don't worry! I have a schedule printed for the next Farmers Market, and I encourage everyone to come out and support our local vendors. It’s a great way to enjoy the fresh produce and unique products Springfield has to offer.

 PHLOX DAMAGE

Extension Master Gardeners of Douglas/ Sarpy County - Phlox info

Tall garden phlox are looking a little ratty this season thanks to the phlox plant bug. This insect has a piercing/sucking mouth part (similar to aphids) and they will suck the life out of the plant. Damage will manifest as downward cupping, stippling, dead terminal growth, and lack of vigor. There can be two generations a year and they overwinter as eggs on dead phlox stems. To help reduce the insect from reoccurring good fall or early spring sanitation would help remove the eggs. Low impact options would include insecticidal soaps or horticulture oils.
