Welcome Back Springfield
Welcome to the first week of September. I can see the first signs of autumn as I ride my bike in the MoPac Trail. Plus have you noticed the cooler mornings? Which of course brings on the anticipation of fall festivities, and the return to routine for many of us.
Harvest Festivities & Community Events September is the gateway to some of our favorite fall traditions—football comes to mind for most. Mark your calendars for upcoming family-friendly events, and don’t forget to cheer on our high school athletes! You can view the full schedule of high school sports by clicking on this link: Trailblazer Conference Calendar.
Supporting Local Businesses As we transition into the new season, let’s continue to support our local businesses that bring so much charm to our town. Many of our local shops are featuring new fall collections and seasonal items—perfect for cozying up your home or finding unique gifts for loved ones. Be sure to stop by our beloved coffee shop, where you can grab a warm beverage to kickstart your day or catch up with friends. Your continued support helps these businesses thrive, making Springfield the special place we all call home.
Driver Education at Springfield High School A special note for parents and students: Springfield High School will once again host Driver Education this fall. It’s a great opportunity for our young drivers to learn the rules of the road in a familiar environment. Registration starts September 11th click on this link for more information. https://www.esu3.org/DE/SPPLCAL

It Happened in Springfield
Photo: Springfield Jaycee president, Cindy Camden, poses with awards won at the 1987 State
Jaycee Convention.
In 1984, the United States Jaycees voted to amend its bylaws in order to admit women as full individual members. The change was taken in response to a United States Supreme Court decision requiring the Jaycees organization to admit women. Local Jaycees President, Bob
Green, noted that he was glad to extend membership to women in the Springfield area. The purpose of the Jaycees was to develop leaders of tomorrow. He urged any men or women between the ages of 18 and 36 years old to join. In 1987 Jaycee member, Cindy Camden, was elected as president of the Springfield Jaycees.

COME ON OVER!
This is the way country music started out, with acoustic instruments, before electricity. People sat out on the lawn, on the porch, or in a friend’s house and played their instruments together.
Enjoy the originality of music which is still present in many circles of friends.
