 It Happened in Springfield

In 1974, the City of Springfield and the Park Board initiated efforts to secure funding for the acquiring and enhancement of a parcel of land south of Springfield Elementary, aiming to establish a new park. They reached out to Springfield residents for donations and fundraising ideas. Soon after the announcement, the Park Board began to receive contributions and support for fundraisers from local residents, businesses, and organizations. Proceeds from spaghetti dinners, grants, raffles, and the sale of various items brought the vision of the new park closer to reality. Even after Buffalo Park was established, donations continued to flow in for further park improvements. All of this was made possible by the generous support of the Springfield community.

COME ON OVER!

This is the way country music started out, with acoustic instruments, before electricity.  People sat out on the lawn, on the porch, or in a friend’s house and played their instruments together.

Enjoy the originality of music which is still present in many circles of friends.

Did You Know?

The 1912 presidential election was one of the most unique in U.S. history! Former President Theodore Roosevelt ran as a third-party candidate after losing the Republican nomination to his successor, President William Howard Taft. Roosevelt’s "Bull Moose Party" split the Republican vote, allowing Democrat Woodrow Wilson to win with just 42% of the popular vote. Even more interesting, Roosevelt outperformed Taft, finishing second—a rare occurrence in American politics! There was also a strong fourth candidate, Eugene V. Debs, from the Socialist Party, who garnered nearly a million votes.
