Welcome Back Springfield!

We hope you had a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving break. Now, we find ourselves in what is often called “the most wonderful time of the year!” December is a month full of joy, traditions, and community spirit, and we’re excited to share it with you.

Special Congratulations

A big congratulations to Kelly, our wonderful Springfield Librarian, on her recent wedding! It was a beautiful ceremony and reception, filled with love and celebration. The reception was held at the Durham Museum, a perfect location for such a special occasion.

Did you know the library has free passes to the Durham Museum? You, too, can experience the train station's magnificent tree and the holiday magic it offers. Stop by the library to ask about the passes—but hurry, supplies are limited! And don’t forget to congratulate Kelly, our new bride, when you see her.

Help the Girl Scouts Get to Washington!

Springfield/Westmont Junior-level Girl Scouts have an amazing chance to head to Washington, D.C., and they’re ready to roll up their sleeves to make it happen. Let’s give them a hand!

Need help with child care or Christmas wrapping (not rapping—though if they could pull off a festive remix of “Jingle Bells,” we wouldn’t complain)? These hardworking Girl Scouts are here to save the day and earn their way to D.C. Details on how they can help you—and how you can help them—are below!

Springfield, we need your help! The Cookie Walk is coming soon, and we’re counting on all of you to buy and bring us cookies. Let’s make this event a sweet success by getting the whole community involved. Your support will make a difference, and we can’t wait to see Springfield come together to share the holiday spirit.

Wishing you cookies, cocoa, and lots of holiday magic,

Let’s shop, sip, and stay strong together this holiday season, Springfield!

Calling all Springfieldians!

UPDATE***Finalizing cookbooks and it is turning out so great! For those of you who felt you missed the due date, don’t worry, I’m accepting recipes until the 8th and will add them as I continue to finalize everything. Will gladly accept more until then! I will send an update on the 9th to inform how much the cookbook will cost and then will order them by the 10th or 11th, payment will be due on the 12th! Thank you! My advice is order multiple as this will be a large bulk order which means it’ll be the cheapest price and best bang for your buck. These make great wedding shower gifts, Christmas gifts, housewarming gifts, you name it!

What if we made a Springfield community cookbook!? If you would like to be included please submit your recipe following the instructions below and I will turn all the information given into a cookbook! I am on a mission to get this created and copies printed before Christmas so that if you wanted to gift one or more to family and friends they are ready by then! How fun to have a book full of recipes from our friends and neighbors! It can be anything from your favorite entree, side dish, dessert, beverage, or appetizer. Feel free to submit more than one as well, thank you! Just think, we will never be in a dinner rut again!

***Please have your recipe typed and sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Please also send the number of cookbooks you would like to purchase. Planning to do one bulk order and the more ordered the cheaper it should be. Depending how many people order, my guess would be around $20 per cookbook, maybe cheaper, maybe a little more… Wont know a set price until it is made and the orders are in but will keep everyone informed!

Feel free to share with your fellow facebook-less sprinfieldians!

Fit Tip of the Week:

More Water, More Moving

It’s simple but effective! Staying hydrated and keeping your body in motion are two of the easiest ways to feel better and stay healthy.

  • Drink Up: Aim for at least 8-10 glasses of water a day (more if you're active!). Water boosts energy, aids digestion, and helps your muscles recover faster.
  • Move More: Take the stairs, park farther away, or sneak in some stretches during commercials. Every little bit of movement adds up to big health benefits!

Small changes can make a big difference—keep it moving, and keep it hydrated!

 It Happened in Springfield

Photo 1: Jeanne Bohuslovsky sings Christmas songs with the children waiting for Santa’s visit.
Photo 2: Santa Claus reads his list of the good boys and girls in Springfield.
Photo 3: Nicole Lutz visits with Santa.
Beginning in the late 1970s and continuing into the 1990s, the Springfield Public Library hosted
Christmas parties with Santa Claus visits. While they waited for Santa to arrive in 1987, the kids
sung Christmas songs led by Jeanne Bohuslovsky. Before visiting each child at the celebration
and listening to their Christmas wish list, Santa ran over his list of Springfield's excellent boys
and girls.

COME ON OVER!

This is the way country music started out, with acoustic instruments, before electricity.  People sat out on the lawn, on the porch, or in a friend’s house and played their instruments together.

Enjoy the originality of music which is still present in many circles of friends.
