Welcome back, Springfield!
In just ONE WEEK, it will be CHRISTMAS!! And with that, this will be the last newsletter of the year, so let’s make it count. Merry Christmas, everyone!
Speaking of time slipping away... not just in the countdown to Christmas, but also last Friday and Saturday—wow, did those days slip right by us! It was a whirlwind of festive fun, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who baked and donated those amazing cookies at the Cookie Walk! Your generosity and holiday spirit truly made the event a sweet success. And to all of you who showed up to grab some of those big bags of homemade goodness, we appreciate you! Springfield’s love for cookies is alive and well!
While you're enjoying the holiday season, remember to SHOP LOCAL! Our small-town businesses need us to keep thriving into the NEW YEAR, so get out there and support them! And if you haven't heard, there's a new business in town—22halomedia—bringing fresh energy and ideas to Springfield! Let’s show them some love as they settle into our community.
Stay merry, stay bright, and let’s keep the Springfield spirit going strong!
And might as well get a Pie Gift Card from the Library

HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
Last week of the semester coming up! Monday & Tuesday are normal school days but Wednesday, Thursday and Friday follow our Finals Bell Schedule. That schedule is posted below.
We have been asked to host a short assembly at school Monday by Helping A Hero. This organization builds homes for wounded veterans. Sgt Ben Marksmeier, who was honored at our Veterans Day Ceremony, will be receiving a house from HAH that is located in our school district. We are honored that this organization (https://helpingahero.org/) has asked us to participate in this event. Students from PHS & PC will be in attendance for the ceremony in our auditorium before the actual ceremony at the Marksmeier's new house.
One Act ended it's performance season at Districts in York last week. Congratulations to Dr Kersulov and everyone who made the performances so enjoyable.
We have our annual Wrestling Invite coming up next Friday the 20th. This event is loaded with great talent every year. If you want to see some of the top wrestlers in the state compete, come on up to PHS Friday for the boys and Saturday for the girls.

It Happened in Springfield
Photo: Before Christmas lights and decorations were added, the 1992 Christmas tree was
installed at the intersection of 2nd and Main Street. The tree was smaller in dimensions from
the previous year’s tree. It was about 20 feet round while the 1991 tree was approximately 30
feet.
You may have heard of the Christmas tree plopped in the manhole in the center of the
intersection at 2 nd and Main Street during the holiday season. The tradition began in the 1940’s
and continued until the city deemed the tree was too much of a traffic hazard. After
approximately twenty years of the tradition no longer being observed, one year in the early
1980’s a Christmas tree mysteriously appeared in the middle of Main Street bringing back the
famous Christmas-Tree-in-the-Middle-of-Main-Street to downtown Springfield. After a few
years of a group of guys secretly installing the tree, the owners of Springfield’s Buffalo Creek
Bar received permission from the city council for the tree to be put up for a week. The bar
owners, Carol Klimek and Frank Sladek, and employees decorated the tree with lights.
Members of the community contributed handmade ornaments. At one point Springfield
Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department took over the responsibility of installing and decorating
the tree. Of course, there are plenty of stories of mishaps with vehicles and a number of
complaints of not being able to safely navigate around the tree. After renovating downtown
Main Street in 2011, the new bumped out sidewalks made the Christmas-Tree-in-the-Middle-
of-Main-Street impossible to continue but the memories are priceless.

The Wreath That Goes Around
A wreath of green, a circle bright,
It hangs with hope on Christmas night.
No start, no end, just spinning grace,
A quiet truth time can’t erase.
It speaks of life, like seasons spun,
Of winters passed and springs begun.
Traditions woven, year by year,
A ring of love to hold us near.
Through candle glow and children’s cheer,
It gathers all we hold so dear.
Like family hands that clasp in prayer,
The wreath reminds us we still care.
For life, like wreaths, is bound and twined,
With memories of love combined.
We hand them down, from old to new,
And keep the circle pure and true.
Though years may change the face we see,
The wreath endures, so faithfully.
It keeps on going, round and round,
A legacy that knows no ground.
So hang it high and hold it dear,
A symbol bright from year to year.
For life, like wreaths, must carry on,
A timeless song, a Christmas dawn.
