Welcome Back
Hey Springfield! Did you know we have pelicans in Nebraska? They’ve been gliding in and out along the Platte River all week, and it’s been an absolute treat to watch. But they’re not alone—we’ve seen all kinds of birds stopping by for a bite and a break before continuing their journey.
Some of the ducks this year have been real characters—beautiful, unusual colors you don’t see every day. And have you seen the herons? That long beak and wingspan… they look like something straight out of prehistoric times—kind of like a flying pterodactyl!
Speaking of birds—quack, quack!—we’re getting closer to June 8th and the Lucky Duck Race! Rumor has it, more amazing prizes have been donated. You’ll definitely want to get your ticket whne they go on sale. . Remember, every dollar raised goes straight to support our Springfield Library.
And hey—if you want a closer look at all these winged visitors, don’t forget: you can check out binoculars or even a telescope from the library! The skies have been putting on a real show lately, and there are some exciting moon phases coming up you won’t want to miss.
See you down by the river—in a van! the weather is looking great for bird watching.

For several reasons, mostly to ensure that all student and staff only enter the school in 1 location, we have changed our policy on parking. Students are now allowed access to the west lot if they choose to park there. We have piloted this change for the last week and it has gone well. Things get a little more congested at dismissal but we have been clearing the west lot in no more than 9 minutes the last week. To help maintain the crucial safety of the bus/drop-off lane, I wanted to share 2 graphics to help guide drivers through. One suggestion for adults who pick up their kids after school, meet them in the north lot. That would cut down a little of the congestion right at dismissal and keep you entirely away from the bus lane. |

It Happen in Springfield
In February 1954, Latham Elevator's owner, James P. Latham, revealed plans to construct a liquid fertilizer plant in Springfield. On March 10, 1954, around three hundred individuals attended an informational meeting at the Springfield Community Building to learn about the construction of the new
plant. To answer inquiries and demonstrate the distinctions between producing crops with and without liquid fertilizer, experts from Omaha's Farm Fertilizer Company were available. In April 1954, Latham's
liquid fertilizer plant opened for business, joining Latham Elevator, which specialized in grains and granular fertilizer.

COME ON OVER!
This is the way country music started out, with acoustic instruments, before electricity. People sat out on the lawn, on the porch, or in a friend’s house and played their instruments together.

The early bird catches the worm, but the patient bird catches the best view.
Birdwatching, at its core, requires a quiet and patient approach, allowing you to tune into the subtle movements and sounds of the avian world. It’s a perfect way to get outside, move, and connect with nature.
“Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” – Albert Einstein
