SPRINGFIELD AREA MASTER GARDENERS NEWS

Garden Share

Some of you attended the Springfield Days Parade  this past weekend and while we ran out of candy this year (we will have plenty next year), we also handed out seeds. These seeds were donated by the Nebraska Resource District and can still be planted for Prairie gardens. You can rough up an area and sprinkle over the top. You may get growth or you can wait till next year.

The temperatures outside are getting hotter so make sure and water your containers and  twice a day but not during the heat of the day. Same with lawns, make sure and water in the morning.
The picture is showing our new community plant swap. The plant shelf is up and already for exchanges. One of the plants on the shelf is a Hosta. Hostas are an excellent plant for beginners. They grow better in partial shade because they can get sun scald. If they are new to the garden you can water about once a week. There are several different types of hostas ranging from large to small, all green to practically white.
We have had a lot of hail in the area, just make sure and cover them up or if they get shredded just clean up what you can but leave any remaining plant and you'll be surprised by the recovery.
Grow Green!
