Girl Scout Troop 54 spent a June weekend camping at Camp Maha in 1990. Camp Maha located south of 63^rd & Platteview Rd. offered Girl Scout Troops a chance to enjoy the camping experience. Camp Maha is still open for Girl Scouts and non-Girl Scouts, as well.

Japanese Beetles

They're HERE!!! UGH?!?! Even though being a gardener and you have love and/or admire all insects and their roles, I cannot agree with you on Japanese beetles.

This particular nemesis of flower, vegetable garden and grass that come out late June. The grubs will eat grass roots and the adults will eat almost everything until they mate. They lay their eggs back into the lawn and it starts all over again. They live basically from June to September and mate every 24 to 48 hrs.

The best control is to either pick them off by hand and drop into water with dishwashing liquid in it or insecticidal soap like Neem oil. There really isn't a "product" available for control and the traps draw them to your garden and do not scare them away. Be prepared for here they come.
