Community Engagement Survey

The Springfield Community Foundation (SCF) is embarking on a new phase and will be undergoing a strategic planning process to reshape the vision, mission, and goals of the foundation. SCF wants to ensure it is aligned and in tune with what our community members feel is important and desires to invest in areas where it can have the most significant impact.

SCF values the thoughts and opinions of its community members and is reaching out to gather feedback regarding our great town.

Thank you!

IT HAPPENED IN SPRINGFIELD HISTORY

History Kool aid1987

A hot August day is the perfect time to set up a Kool-Aid stand for all your thirsty customers. In 1987, enterprising kids: Moe Pickett, Shannon Opitz, and Leighanne Opitz sold Koo-Aid for 5 cents a cup on Main Street. What a bargain!

SPRINGFIELD AREA MASTER GARDENERS NEWS

Get your cameras out!

Now is the time, in the fall, to get out your cameras. You never know what you will find (see below).

As the gardens start to go to sleep and the cleanup begins, here comes the debate. Should you leave some debris so the things can over winter like ground dwelling bees. That's up to you. Birds also need some winter cover and they appreciate anything to survive our winds.

I would recommend, however, that you cleanup any diseased or infected plant tissue so your issues doesn't return next year. Don't compost these leaves. Also make a map of where your vegetables were planted because a lot of them are affected by the same insects which harbor in the ground and can be slowed by rotating your crops. It's still early to trim up peonies and other perennial plants.

(I know this article is a little early but now is the time to stick, suggest these things). This is a fun time in the garden so enjoy all your hard work. Don't forget to share your extras on the fairs share shelves and.....GROW GREEN!
