SALUTE TO PUBLIC SAFETY EVENT
Community Engagement Survey
The Springfield Community Foundation (SCF) is embarking on a new phase and will be undergoing a strategic planning process to reshape the vision, mission, and goals of the foundation. SCF wants to ensure it is aligned and in tune with what our community members feel is important and desires to invest in areas where it can have the most significant impact.
SCF values the thoughts and opinions of its community members and is reaching out to gather feedback regarding our great town.
Thank you!

SPRINGFIELD AREA MASTER GARDENERS NEWS
Nebraska WON! I'm sorry, not garden related, but NEBRASKA WON!
Ok, back to work. It's September and now is the time to plant your bushes and trees. Hopefully you have them picked out by now.
Make sure with your trees to plant them in a wide enough hole, taking care of root growth considerations, plant above the root flare (base of the tree), no volcano mulch and water (let the hole drain completely and water again).
Same with the shrubs except no root flares. Take into consideration with shrubs the possible growth of the plant and who may come to visit it. For example, you have a flowering wegilia in the spring by your front door and the bees come and say hi. (Fell victim to this myself). Water, drain, and water again is a great way to start your shrub.
Spread the roots out once you take it out of the bag or basket and trim for circulating roots. It prevents girdling. Taking care to remove burlap or wire cages for they will hinder growth.
Enjoy your shrubs and trees! Aronia berries, apple trees, service berries, etc. will bring you great enjoyment. For selection of what will grow in Nebraska look at:
