IT HAPPENED IN SPRINGFIELD HISTORY

HorseShow June1992

Nicole Lutz (left) of Springfield took first place in the pony pleasure division. Kim Hess (right) of Gretna placed second in the event.

In anticipation of the Sarpy County Fair and Nebraska State Fair, local 4-H Horse Show competitions are held at the Sarpy County Fairgrounds. In 1992 the Gretna Rawhide Riders sponsored a 4-H and open class horse show for all age groups.  More than 100 riders from nearby Nebraska towns competed. Several Springfield area horse riders participated in the competition taking home awards for their riding abilities. We look forward to the Sarpy County Fair every year in Springfield.

SPRINGFIELD AREA MASTER GARDENERS NEWS

Tomato, tomato, tomatoes

Ok. I tore myself away from my Prime Day shopping to have one of our first cherry tomatoes. I love tomatoes and my husband who has been known for planting numerous tomato plants does not. Go figure! It got me thinking about tomatoes and what you should be looking for now in the growing season. Some things like herbicide drift --if you see your leaves curling mostly at the top, check out who might have sprayed near you.
Also be looking for early blight and make sure you don't over water or under water. Early blight is a fungal pathogen that can produce bullseye patterns on the leaves and can cause stem lesions and fruit rot. Read the Nebguide below for treatment.
Also be looking out for calcium end rot.  Calcium end rot is due to the lack of calcium in the fruit. Usually your soil has plenty of calcium but the availability to transport it to the fruit is impaired. Just make sure and water consistently and you should be fine..
I can hardly wait until the plants start to produce. Tomato soup and a cheese sandwich or fresh  homemade spaghetti sauce...okay, gotta go. I'm drooling!

Dear Avoca friends near and far!

The Avoca Town Hall has been a big part of the Village for many years. Without it many people would be at a loss on where to gather for village events and many other occasions.

The last couple of years have been a struggle due to Covid cancellations, funds are short. The Hall is in major need of repairs. Board members are working on raising money to help cover the cost of repairs that need to be made.

1. New Roof
2. Masonry work in front of building
3. Replacement of Deck
4. General Maintenance.

If you would like to help in our efforts to save the Town Hall we
would very much appreciate any monetary donation towards our goal of
$25,000.

How to donate:
Send check made payable to Avoca Town Hall to:
