MoPac Trail Caution
As more people get outside, be aware that a mountain lion was spotted along the MoPac Trail on March 12th. Stay alert and take precautions.

Boys & Girls Soccer, Track, Baseball and Girls Tennis all start their seasons this week. Good luck to all and here's to hoping for good weather. Registration for classes for next year is complete. Mrs Christiansen will be working on building the master schedule for 25-26.
Activity passes are for admission into all junior high and high school athletic contests and choir/band concerts. The PHS fall play and PHS musical are not included, as well as any games/contests beyond the regular season (conference tournaments, subdistrict/district games...).

It Happen in Springfield
Country School District #9, Stringtown, was located at approximately 183 rd & Fish Hatchery Rd. on State Highway 31, which was 7 ½ miles southwest of Springfield. The school was built in 1872. For many years, there was no indoor plumbing so students were required to carry water from a nearby farm. The water was stored in a stone cooler. The school day was from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. During nice weather students always ate their lunch on the long front porch. Many topics were discussed during lunch time on the front porch according to Mrs. Eva A. Dietze, a former Stringtown School student. Students in first through eighth grades attended the school. In order to attend high school, eighth grade students were required to take two days of tests in fifteen subjects. The tests were given in the nearest town which was Springfield. Most passed the first time but those who didn’t could take the test a second time.
Teachers and students worked hard for the tests. Irma Lefler Sullivan graduated from Louisville High
School in 1934. After graduation she was hired to teach at Stringtown, which was the school she
attended in the 6 th and 7 th grades. Since it was during the depression, teacher salaries were nearer to $40 per month and teachers were known to under bid just to obtain a teaching position. Irma Lefler Sullivan
was fortune to be hired at Stringtown School with a salary of $70 per month. Stringtown School closed in 1957(8) after the state requirement of school redistricting. The building was sold in 1959 to Oren Derby who dismantled it and moved the lumber to his farm to construct a shed.
